Wow, that is a very strange Undead list you have there. Don't get me wrong its really punchy, and really aggressive but is not the typical undead list I'm used to see.

I will start with your heroes, They are the standard choice, and I like them. I would give the Necromancer the Inspiring Talisman but Myrddins is a good option too, specially in combination with surge.

Soul Reaver Cav regiment is just an amazing unit, they can pretty much destroy a whole army by itself one unit a time, Its really expensive though but I really like them, even at 1250 I would keep them. Just have in mind that their Nerve is not the best there is, not bad but protect them from multicharging or they will be in trouble, specially if a high CS is on their flank they can go down in a single turn, or get wavered, only unit of the undead with the werewolves that can be wavered, and then they will go down the next.

I like your troop options too, Revenant Cav will help the Soul Reavers or even shield them from a charge if needed. I would change one of the units of Revenants for a Wraith troop. Trust me those things are REALLY annoying, Def 6 and lifeleech means that they will not go down easily. But the best thing they have is the combo of Fly and Shambling, let me explain:

    - You charge a unit on the flank or let put us in the worst case scenario get charged. They will probably not die due to the good nerve and Def 6, also they can't be wavered.
    - Next turn instead of doing a counter charge, you can do this: Move 10 forwards over the unit that charged you, make your two 90º pivots (Fly also grants Nimble) and then you are facing the units rear.
    - Use your necromancer or Liche King to Surge the Wraiths on the rear of the unit, for a juicy triple attacks.

And you can do that ALL THE TIME, providing there is a source for surge in range, and its really should be one. Or just fly away if you feel you should be hunting for a better objective.

The elephant in corner of this list is that it lucks something very important for the undead, An anvil. All your units are really good hammers but there are no units that can act as a tar pit to get your heavy hitting troops in position. I would exchange the Soul Reaver Infantry regiment, for a Horde of Revenats. I love the hordes of revenants, they are incredible at holding the enemy and even hiting back. Another option is a HUGE Legion of Zombies, but I don't like them, for 10 points more I would always choose the revenant horde. If you do that that gives you 60 points to spend on something nice, ike for example changing one of the revenants troops for a wraith troop. and you get 5 points to add a small artifact to unit, Blade of Slashing or Mace of Crusing are the usual choice.

This is what I need, the list I did is the first list I have ever compiled for any game with points, quite enjoyed it and I can see where the catch was in warhammer now and never playing any wargame I have no idea what an "anvil" is

For you to say I got even a bit of it right make me feel good, I'm going to use the army builder and have a play around.

An anvil is a unit usually high nerve value and relatively cheap that you use to hold the enemy in place for 2-3 turns, while your hammers (your hard hitting units) flank their units. It might fight back in a more or less dignified way, but the point of the unit is to act as a barrier against the enemy so that the enemy has two options, try to kill it fast, and that means usually putting a lot of effort and resources or put his anvil there and let them grind. In both cases you win because if he sends his hard hitting units for your anvil, then your hard hitting units are free to kill things and if he uses a similar unit of his to the task of killing your anvil, then there is nothing to stop your good units.

Of course, usually the enemy has the same plan, and that is were tactics come into play.

Also, I usually like to include 1 source of inspiring for every 500-600 points. You might feel its not really necessary, but inspiring will save you more than once.

This one is better I think.

I would take the wraiths as a troop, the size matter with them, also for 60 points you are just getting 2 attacks and some nerve, the nerve is great but you loose mobility by gaining footprint, you need a small footprint to do the rear attack trick.

I also, and it is a personal thing, dislike catapults. The thing is you only throw a dice, and you hit on +5, that means that in a 6 turn game you are only going to hit an average of 2 times, and that is if you can fire every turn and then you will be doing between 2 and 6 wounds. I've ran catapults, usually field one with my bretonnians and its a matter of pure luck to get the points back, sometimes it just never gets to kill anything. the only way of getting consistent hits with them is fielding 3, and that is 300 points, and a bit too much for me.

I would use those 100 points + 60 (wraiths) and buy some Wights, regiment size is ok.

And definitely seeing how small number of combat units you have, I would get rid of the revenant king and use his 140 points to buy a regiment of revenants and use the 20 extra points to change the Myrddin Amulet for an Inspiring Talisman.

Of course these are only opinions, the thing is you are doing the right thing, and that is to play with the points, create mad list or things you think will work. Then just test them and get your own conclusions, maybe your playstyle is so much different than mine that some units will work for you that wouldn't work for me. As I said, great work!

And welcome to the world of competitive gaming :p

I like that quite a lot. Also good call on the Catterpillar, it's almost always used on cavalry, the thing is you can advance your cavalry behind cover (forests) and then charge from inside a forest not being hindered.

You know what, I've loved messing with the builder and adding items to your army is one thing I think AOS could benefit from, never thought I would say this but I'm slowly turning..

I quite like the list also, next I'm going to have a bash at Ogres.

Thanks for the tips and hopefully will get my first game in this weekend.

When you build Ogres, trust me put in there a Horde of Boomers, best unit in the army for me. Piercing (1) Breath Attack (18) that hurts a lot
