    1. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
    2. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
    3. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
    4. Episode IV: A New Hope
    5. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
    6. Episode I: The Phantom Menace
    7. Episode VII: The Force Awakens
    8. Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
    9. Episode II: Attack of the Clones
    The reasoning behind (IMO):

Empire Strikes Back: this one got everything. Solid story, great battles, Yoda ad his finest, characters growth, immense Darth Vader.

A Star Wars Story: again, solid story (that fills the holes in Ep I), no boring romance, heroic sacrifices, cool (even if not original) characters, great ending. THis is how you can actually do a great SW movie that looks at visual greatness without losing the eye on the story.

Return of the Jedi: this could have easily taken the 2nd place. It's brilliant, epic, cool... it has more upsides than aSWstory, but also some heavier downsides (Ewoks).

A New Hope: the one that started it all. It shows its age and it's not at the same level of the first three, not by far, but I cannot negate its charm.

Revenge of the Sith: the movie would be good, as there are many things I like, and the "secondary" characters are excellent (Yoda and Palpatine above all). However, the main core of the movie is the descent into darkness of Anakin, and that's bland, at best. A so missed opportunity.

The Phantom Menace: Some things are cringeworthy (midichlorians), some other are kinda meh (JarJar is embarassing, but gungans as a race are not bad), some things were good (every part with Darth Maul except for his stupid plot death).

The force awakens: little premise: it was hard to decide if i had to rank this one lower or higher than the prequels. It captures the mood of the original trilogy (which is good) and it got some decent action. However, it got also huge plot holes and, most of all, it suffers from an unforgivable main weakness: most of the Good Guys are uninteresting or annoying (Poe Dameron), and most of all we have a total lack of Bad Guys with personality or charismatic presence. Snoke seems an oldman of the muppets show, Kylo is a whiny emo, captain Phasma is... nothing.

The Last Jedi: some few good things cannot salvage a movie with an already slow pace. Luke's character apparently losed all the force of will gained and showed in ep VI; Kylo shows finally a character growth but he's still a guy with self esteem issues; the plot holes become chasms. Some nice combat scene and Luke's final trick don't suffice. At least Porg weren't awful.

Attack of the clones: one of the worst, slow and stupid romance interlude I've ever seen. And it fills a large part of the whole movie. It irked me to the point that I barely remember what also happened. I just recall the factory scene (was it aimed to support a platform SW videogame?) and the final battle... from a movie, even a SW Flick, i would like a bare minimum story, not just some fancy CGI.

It's easy to disrespect any film if there's something you specifically don't like in it. Why don't we talk about how badass Darth Maul is or how good Obi Wan's character development was? Surely we should celebrate all that is good about Star Wars and keep the bad stuff hidden in the dark where it belongs? For example, some of Han's lines were quite funny in the Originals and Episode 7 ("That's not how the Force works!"), and of course the Battle of Yavin is a classic sequence. Can anyone apart from Porkins hold it?

    Hidden?

Anakin, if one is to understand the great mystery, one must study all its aspects, not just the dogmatic, narrow view of the Jedi.

Digging up an old thread here, but having seen Solo:
    1. Rogue One
    2. Last Jedi
    3. Solo
    4. OT as a whole
    5. Force Awakens
    6. PT as a whole

    Heresy! ;)

On no account does VII beat Episodes I-III - the story is awfully cliche-ridden and the only decent character was Finn. Also the light, airy-fairy Original Trilogy atmosphere is strong in this one, stronger than in any of the other new ones for certain.

I’ll make my own judgement on this thread when I’ve seen Solo next week.

We all know you love the PT but you must be aware that for most people the OT easily beats the the PT. Therefore, as episode VII has a strong OT atmosphere, it will beat Episodes I-III in most people's books.

Keep in mind I'm not actually arguing which is better between the PT and the OT. We have done enough of that. However, it is a fact that more people like the OT and subsequently the OT vibe of TFA would work to its advantage (in the hearts of most people).

For me Solo is not a terrible movie, but a highly forgettable one. The bad parts of Solo are not as bad as the bad parts of the PT, IMHO. However, the PT also contains a bunch of very good memorable moments which the Solo movie lacks.

I'm currently working through my updated list. I'm considering placing Episode I over Episode II, but I have to re-watch II. Also, TLJ has fallen big time on my list after re-watching it. Solo will probably bring up the rear.

I'm not saying they're bad films, but they just don't rank higher than The Force Awakens for me. The fact it was a NEW STAR WARS FILM!!! is probably what gave it the edge

    My updated list:

    1. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
    2. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
    3. Episode IV: A New Hope
    4. Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
    5. Solo: A Star Wars Story
    6. Episode I: The Phantom Menace
    7. Episode VII: The Force Awakens
    8. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
    9. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
    10. Episode II: Attack of the Clones

Might still change a bit. The newer ones get the bonus of being new, and the old ones get a nostalgia bonus. The newest main series movies also might become better when viewed as a whole, as soon as Episode IX is released.

Now that I’ve seen what Disney is capable of doing with Star Wars, my opinion of 7 has gone way down - after the initial hype of seeing a Star Wars film in the cinema for the first time that came with it fading away, its lack of originality now really starts to show through compared with the other three Disney ones. I’ve even gone so far to move Empire above it and VI because at least it’s an original story - VI tries the whole Death Star plot again (with the added ridiculousness of primitive Stone Age teddy bears defeating professional troops thousands of years more advanced than they are) while VII has even less originality with only Finn’s character being a step toward something fresh and new.

I can’t decide which is better out of 2 and 3 so I put them as joint 3rd, with Solo being 4th. The plot of Solo was very good, with the added betrayals and sneakiness, but the one thing I would say it lacked was the emotional impact of Rogue One and the prequels for me, but that’s just what I think. It was certainly better than VIII though because the really silly elements of VIII still stand out for me. However, the dark, Battlestar Galactica atmosphere and the original story elements of VIII put it above the originals and VII.

I still have Episode I up top because to me it’s timeless. It was my first Star Wars film and I feel somehow that it got the balance right between the CGI and real scenes. The CGI somehow feels more natural to me, whereas I do admit that some scenes in II and possibly III had a cartoonish aspect of them, like in the Battle of Geonosis. Did you know that more physical models were made for Episode I alone than the entire OT combined? It also showed the Jedi in their prime and how something relatively insignificant as the invasion of a single planet over tax disputes was the spark for three major Galactic wars, along with setting Palpatine’s evil plans in motion that would lead to him becoming dictator of a new Sith Empire.

I love the original trilogy and prequels. Special mention to Rogue 1 and Solo which are really entertaining and add something to the universe.

Worst movies I have seen lately are the Last Jedi and The Force Awakens (from this franchise at least). Terrible efforts to kick the franchise into the future.

The Force Awakens was better than Solo. Solo is such a forgettable movie. Glad to see that it is bombing in the box office!

This is true... but the fan base has spoken (with their wallets) and Solo is a failure. I'm not arguing that anyone shouldn't like it, but facts are facts. Just like I can simultaneously admit that AoS is successful and hate it at the same time.

I disagree here. Many people haven't even seen it. The lack of success of Solo probably has more to do with TLJ than with Solo.

I agree that the TLJ blow back has affected it, but if Solo was a great Star Wars movie, word of mouth would have turned its fortunes around. Unlike all the previous SW movies, it doesn't really have any truly memorable moments. The ending is flawed. The whole gambling sequences between Han and Lando is flawed. Most of the characters are pretty bland. The SJW droid sucks. No one (or at least very few people) even wanted the movie in the first place.

Most of the reactions I have heard are way more positive than yours, and still people seem to not want to see it.
I think the negative people are just too loud (as always) so the word of mouth has no chance.
Sad, but that's the way the world works these days it seems.
