Here's my Stegadon on his base (95% finished, only very few things missing). I will write a more in-depth post on him soon. He is VERY modular and there is quite a lot of stuff I want to tell you about it.

And now that I see it in the background I notice I haven't done a post about the Bastiladon either. So that one will follow soon as well.

    More Silver Tower guys!

Tonight the kids were sleeping simultaneously, so my wife helped me with those. I like building stuff, sometimes I even like it more than painting. Dunno why.
Maybe it has to do with the plastic glue fumes....

Also we noticed those guys are seriously ripped! Working for the chaos gods seems to help keeping your body in shape.
....well, with the exception of some Nurgle guys I guess. :D

I am continously trying to push my quality, so nice to hear that it doesn't look too awful. :)

Haha, didn't think about that! :D

In my experience, talent is the accumulation of practice and knowledge. I think you're selling yourself short. You've got all the research and knowledge now it's the time and practice side of the equation and that's inevitable.

There's going to be a lot of practice soon!
Today I built the ST Tzangors, and I already have some 1300 points of a Death army here waiting for assembly. :) plus some further lizards of course.

@Aginor This is completely true and I'm going to show you something now but first a lecture.
I started in the 80ies my first model was 2 colours and crap (I thought it was brilliant) I showed my friends and they laughed at me, I went home and painted, painted, painted, a month later I showed them a box of wood elve archers and they were gob smacked, still not brilliant but 1000% better than my first model.

I gave up after around 6 years painting and returned 2 years ago now if you look in my blog at the Saurus Cavalry and Temple guards they are basic but now 2 years on I have had to make them into full units and it has been very hard to paint that way, you progress no matter how long you have been painting.

The 2 models below are ones I painted in the 80ies just look how basic they are compared to my recent models, you never stop learning, never sell yourself short your models are good and you will be a competent painter, I have no doubt of that. ;)

    Thank you! :)

Well, back before the Internet it was much harder I think.
One is the materials used (paints but also those pewter - or even lead - miniatures), and one is how to obtain the knowledge. In the 80s if you didn't have somebody in your local circle who could show you a technique, you would not know it unless you were really lucky to find it out yourself or read it in a magazine.

Yesterday I watched videos about how to paint Kairic Acolytes and Tzaangors and thought: Holy crap I wouldn't have the slightest clue how those color schemes work without that video, especially the skin. But this is the 21st century, I just watch someone (who might be from another continent) how he paints it, in 1080p resolution on my 46" TV. In the middle of the night if I want to. Ten times in a row if I want, without loss of quality. That changes a lot.

Btw, since you posted your '80s minis:
I am VERY sure that without the Internet that's pretty much exactly how my miniatures would look. I am a bit of a shut-in so I'd probably not be the person sitting in a GW store painting. Seeing how your minis look pretty great nowadays I'd say you practised quite well.

And it may be silly, but it really helps to see everybody started somewhere. It gave me a lot of hope to read this article:
    https://www.warhammer-community.com/2016/11/14/my-first-model-part-1-our-own-duncan-rhodes/

Duncan is a great painter, and he shows his first model, which, well... let's say it doesn't quite reach the standards he is known for today. And I found it great how he explains that he keeps it near his desk to remind himself that everyone starts somewhere. That's a great attitude as well.

That is the best attitude, I watch loads of youtube videos but one I find really useful is The war gamer, he is not the best out there but what he does he explains it well, well worth subscribing and watching.

Those are so awesome! Messed up colour for the elf's clothes, must have been the 80's! The wolf's saddle turned out alright too. Got to love seeing the difference from then to now, it's really impressive.

Built the Gaunt Summoner and Ogre mage guy. Pretty nice models, well sculpted.

I won't build the heroes for now, because we intend to play with models we have.

List of available heroes that my friend, my wife, and I could play with:
    - Weirdnob
    - Warchanter
    - Branchwych
    - Oldblood
    - Skink Starpriest
    - Wight King
    - Necromancer + Skellies
