I have for at time thought of some background fluff for my Lizardmen army (Slanputin got me inspired). I think I have found the overall idea, and will begin working on it soon (hopefully). Before I begin in earnest, I wanted to share the names for some characters I have come up with, to see what you lot think about them. Let´s just dive into it. Saurus Oldblood (blessed by sotek) Name: Xiuhcoatl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xiuhcoatl Remids me a bit of Sotek) I imagine him looking like this, not exactly like it, but as a reference: Skink Priest (blessed by sotek) tsiltik Xeucat Coatl (red sun snake) Name: Tsix`oatl Skink oracle (blessed by sotek) Name: Na-Ga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nāga) Skink Chief (blessed by sotek) Tunal tecuani (sun leopard) Name: Tu`tecani Carnosaur (saurus mount) (the one lost by man(the egg from the ship Narcissus)) Name: Sutah (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Set_(mythology)) Troglodon (oracle mount) (albino (red) specimen) Ningishzida (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ningishzida) Name: Nigizida Ancient stegadon (priest mount) (red crested) Chiltic Metsti (red moon) Name: Chi`metsi Ripperdactyl (chief mount) (red) Name: Quezoal (Quetzalcoatl http://www.native-languages.org/famuto.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_worship#Serpent If you had not guessed already my theme is Sotek
Every time you misuse an apostrophe in a name, a little piece of Scalenex dies... So pretty negligible in effect, really. (see : http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/kcibrihp-esurcs-temple-city.15489/ or just forum search "apostrophe" Hee hee! Back to topic: I like the attention to detail - it allows you to call someoneb "Sun Leopard" or whatever as a title or term of (cold blooded) affection. The contracted words roll off the tongue very well, although none of them need an apostrophe to work (unlike Taisteslaikch'ken). I would say drop'em. Scalanex might stop crying long enough to suggest using hyphens. However YOUR fantasy army can commit as many grammatical sins as you like (but you did ask) Thanks for the links - I resort to desperate puns because of the difficulty of coming up with cool sounding names. I shall plunder this trove next time I need a hero!
I am already dead inside. The sight of a gratituous apostrophe only serves to fill the empty cavity inside my heart with an unquenchable rage which I then direct towards my many enemies. I approve of using real world mythos to name characters. I do that fairly often with the RPGs I run. Note, that naming your dinosaurs after real world Earth mythological figures and giving them grand titles suggests that the creatures are venerated by the Lizardmen. If you give them casual names it denotes affection of the sort we give our pets. If you give them literal names like Bonecracker that implies a pragmatic relationship between the Lizardmen and their beasts or at least a martial focus. Now you need to start developing characters! You can't kill them if they don't have enough depth.
You two are hilarious . i could not resist laughing when i read your posts. To follow your advice (spawning of bob) i will remove the apostrophes from the names, and for the sake of Scalenex, so that he does not die completely. To Scalenex: I do not plan on making these exact characters die, but i probably should make some characters, who i could kill when i wanted. To give at least a small impression, that these are mortal creatures (or at least sort of). To spawning of bob: by all means use the links, if you deem them usefull. If they turn out to be of any use to you, well happy times , as I will be happy to have helped another fellow lizard.
You have already helped a fellow lizard by opening another thread where I can continue my flame war with Scalenex. Back to topic - 8 days for a short story competition entry. That's 7.5 days to develop some expendables, 10 minutes to kill them and still time for proof reading!
